Email prank gets woman fired, that post headline is a little misleading. As it turns out the woman that pulled this email prank didn’t get fired, she actually handed in her resignation assuming she would be let go. Here is the prank she pulled on her friends, it wasn’t really a prank, but I guess they call it that when ever you try and get a laugh at other peoples expense, it seems for this practical joke a female employee send out an email asking her friends to rate the male co workers in her office.
When graduate trainee Holly Leam-Taylor planned an awards ceremony to name the most attractive men in her office, she thought it would give her workmates a chuckle for Christmas.
But the seemingly innocent hi-jinks incident ended up costing Ms Leam-Taylor her job, in a warning that online jokes can have very serious consequences.
She had emailed a small number of female colleagues at London firm Deloitte asking them to vote.
With nine categories such as “fittest body” and “boy most likely to sleep his way to the top”, it grabbed attention. As a result, the email spread like wildfire over the Internet.
The categories also included: “fittest boy looks”, “best-dressed boy”, “most attractive ‘older’ member of staff” and “boy with the best personality”.
Within hours the email was being read by millions of Internet users as far away as New Zealand, the US and Australia.
On Wednesday morning she arrived at her London office to find her email inbox full.
But it wasn’t such a laughing matter to her managers at accountancy firm Deloitte, and less than 24 hours after sending the email, she resigned.
She resigned? I can imagine what the office response would have been like if it was a man sending out this email asking others to vote for females. I don’t think he would even have the chance to resign, he would of been fired on the spot.
